A political journal focusing on the ongoing struggle between hopeless liberalism and a new world conservative order that will free the masses and elect more Republicans to positions of trust and honor - or something along those lines.

Perry Announces; Bachman, Paul Surge at Polls

A little before noon Saturday, thousands descended on the grounds of Iowa State University to begin balloting in the Republican Ames Straw poll. The scene was wild, simply a wide open carnival of candidates and causes - all packed around the Hilton Coliseum. People milled about grabbing free buttons, tee-shirts or key chains.
Promoters of free trade, guns rights, right-to-life, wind power and deficit reduction used the opportunity to sign people up or explain their cause. Those who had shown up, more often than not, were resigned to standing in line for at least an hour to cast their ballots for one of a dozen candidates for President.
Of those who are playing in the Hawkeye State, as of 1:00 p.m. Central Time, Congressman Ron Paul, Congresswoman Michelle Bachman and former Gov. Tim Pawlenty are the best organized and working their followers. Bachman made sure everyone who showed up was given a ballot. Paul allowed his son, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-KY, to rev up the audience. They didn't need any inspiration. Paul has wonderful signage. His banners say "Paul for Preident - FOOD" and "Paul for President - PRESS." Everyone knows where they have to be in the Paul campaign and they have discipline.
Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum spoke to a huge barbeque crowd which was totalling engulfed in smoke. It was hard to find him in the haze.
Congressman Thaddeus McCotter also made his musical debut, playing guitar with some kids half his age on a make-shift stage. The few who showed up to listen didn't know McCotter was in the band until he thanked the crowd.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) did a brisk business at its booth, signing up new members while running out of hunter orange caps.
And there was the usual collection of people dressed up in Revolutionary garb and a Abe Lincoln look-a-alike, complete with string tie and stove pipe hat. He gladly posed with anyone for free.
The results will be announced at 5:00 Central Time. Love saying Central Time.
